Azad Kashmir’s Shounter Valley Pass:
Ranges, which can be reached from Kel via a jeep trail, originate in the Upper Neelum Valley. A few months out of every year, see the road remain active. The handy Shounter Valley, which opens at Rattoo on the rim of the Astore Valley, is accessible via the Shounter Pass. Because it serves as the base camp for the Sarwali Peak, Chitta Katha Lake, and the entrance to the Astore Valley from the Shounter Pass. The Shounter Pass rises to over 4,420 meters (14,501 feet) above sea level. Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan are connected via the Shounter Pass, which is 14500 feet high.
Lakes Shounter and Spoon:
Shounter Valley, Neelum, AJK, has a wonderful natural lake shaped like a spoon. It is right below Hari Parbat, also known as “The Mountain That Never Surrendered to Anyone,” and is accessible from Kel Bazaar after a three-hour four-wheel-drive trip. In this entire valley, there are no hotels or nice restaurants. Visitors who plan to remain a long time or overnight must bring food and camping supplies. We were moving spirally up this Nangi Mali Mountain for a while.
A town named Upper Domel was occasionally visible. Shounter Pass is above Shounter Lake (Spoon Lake), where the Rattu Valley of Gilgit Astore is situated, as you continue past Upper Domel. A route to the Sarwali Peak Base Camp emerges from the Upper Domain.
One of the high-peak lakes in the area, Shounter Lake is a treasure of the Shounter Valley. 10,200 feet (3,100 meters) rise above sea level. The glacier streams from the neighboring snowy mountain summits are the lake’s water source. A jeep trail leads from Kel in the Neelum Valley to the lake.
The Shounter Pass
Counter Pass offers access to the Astore Valley. This route that connects Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir is elevated 14500 feet above sea level. By way of this pass, you can get to Astore Valley. Then to Shounter Pass, Kel to Shonter Valley. I must admit that the pass level is really difficult; it requires good training and is a technical pass. The final 2 kilometers of the top are quite difficult, and the descent is considerably more difficult.
Shounter Valley Weather and Temperature Rattu Shounter Pass
There is only seasonal access to this valley. Snowfall and a harsh winter will prevent you from getting there. Check the weather and time of year before visiting this location.
Jeep Track in Shounter Valley
Starting from Kel village, the road leads to Shounter Village. Valley from Kel to Shounter Jeep fares ranges from Rs. 5000 to Rs. 6000.
Shounter Valley to Kel Distance:
From Kel to Shounter Valley, the Jeep Track takes 2 to 3 hours. This valley lacks hotels and other lodging options.
